10 Question That Will Help You Write A Great Business Mission Statement


The Business dictionary defines a mission statement as a written declaration of an organization's core purpose and focus that normally remains unchanged over time. 

The mission statement communicates a sense of intended direction to the entire organization. It is a formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual.

Answering the following 10 questions will help you create your business’s mission statement:

1. Why are you in business?  What do you want for yourself, your family and your customers? 

2.  Who is your target audience? What can you do for them that will enrich their lives and contribute to their success—now and in the future?

3. How do you want your company to be perceived? What image of your business do you want to convey?  How will you create this intended image?

4. What is the nature of your products and services? How will you determine price and quality of your product? 

5. What level of service do you provide?  How will you measure it?

6. What roles do you and your employees play? 
 
7. What kind of relationships will you maintain with suppliers? 

8. How do you differ from competitors? What additional value do you offer? What do you do better, cheaper or faster than your competitors? 

9. How will you use technology, capital, processes, products, and services to reach your goals? 

10. What are your values your responses to the previous questions? Some businesses choose to list these separately.
